vLocDM2 Defect Mapper

                                                                                                                                     

 

The vLocDM2 (Defect Mapper) uses the latest locating and signal processing techniques to plot the current gradient of an industry standard low frequency (3Hz or 4Hz) profiling current. The current is typically applied at CP stations so the disruption of the pipeline can be minimized.

With the vLocDM2 the user can:

  • Identify the location of coating defects
  • Identify shorts to other structures
  • Help categorize the faults
  • Help plan and prioritize remedial work
  • Operate as a long-line pipeline locator  

The Loc-150Tx, 150W transmitter (vLocDM2 transmitter) is used to apply a signal current to the anode bed. The pipeline returns the signal via coating faults back to the transmitter. The transmitter is designed to be powered from CP (Cathodic Protection) stations, AC or external batteries, eliminating the need for batteries.

The non-intrusive measuring device, the vLocDM2 receiver, takes measurements along the pipeline and plots the results directly onto the screen of the receiver. There is no need to carry extra logging and display devices. All the data is displayed and logged into the receiver and can be downloaded to a spreadsheet or dedicated analysis program.

A +/- 3m accuracy GPS antenna is included with the system. It links to the vLocDM2 receiver via Bluetooth radio link. The GPS enables the user to generate real time current gradient graphs and guides the user back to a point of interest by highlighting the user’s position on the graph. This feature is called the “walk back” feature. The system can also be integrated with brand-named high accuracy GPS systems and software packages.

Storing the results also has the benefit of facilitating the technique of comparative tests. Comparing the results from previous surveys of the same length of pipe allows the CP engineer to establish trends of coating deterioration.

The A-frame fault finding accessory is used to accurately locate the position of a fault or holiday. An arrow points the user to the position of the fault whilst quickly and efficiently graphing the characteristic shape and value of the fault signal on the receivers display. This ensures the user minimizes the chances of misidentification.

Accessories

The A-frame fault finding accessory is used to detect ground faults on pipes and cables. In the case of pipes, the faults consist of coating defects. In the case of cables, faults are usually caused by insulation damage allowing the metallic sheath (or internal conductor) to become in contact with the ground.

Manage a fleet of utility locators with the free MyLocator2 desktop application. Configure a fleet of locators by turning on or off features, selecting which frequencies the user has access to and creating custom start-up screens. The MyLocator2 software also will transfer data from the locator to a host computer, perform firmware updates and save the receivers configuration and settings.

When the receiver is connected to a computer running the MyLocator2 software, the software will automatically search our database for the latest software for both the receiver and desktop application. The receiver connects to the computer running MyLocator2 by the USB cable supplied with the receiver.

  • Add a splash start screen to the receiver

Add Bluetooth communication to vLoc series receivers with the plut-in-play Bluetooth module.

 

 

 

 

Direct Connection Leads are used to apply the transmitters signal onto the targeted pipe or cable. The leads consist of a plug, which plugs into the transmitter and a red "hot" lead and a black "ground" lead. Direct connection leads are fitted with various size and types of insulated clips for different applications.

Standard Clip version is suitable for day-to-day normal usage.

 

Heavy Duty Clip version is more suited for the gas and water industries where the size of the targeted lines are larger and connections will be made to bell housings, fire hydrants and transformer boxes. The more aggressive teeth of the heavy duty clip also make it easier to connect to objects that are painted such as hydrants.

 

Telco Clip version is suitable for telephone cable where the user cannot access the sheath of the cable. The "bed of nails" part of this clip can be clamped onto a cable breaking the insulation allowing contact with the sheath.

 

 

 

Charge the receivers internal Lithium-ion battery with a Receiver Vehicle Charging Lead. This 12ft/4m lead makes it easy to stay charged up while on the go.

 

 

 

Induction Clamp is used to apply the transmitter signal to a pipe or cable when it is not possible or convenient to use the direct connection leads.
